What was your life like before the weight loss?
I always felt like a confident person stuck inside an overweight body. There were so many things I wanted to do and things I wanted to try, but I didn’t because of my weight. After the birth of my second child, I was staring at a number on the scale that I had never seen before — and I was terrified. I tried to take control of my weight in the past, but always failed. Obesity runs in my family and I knew I had to do something or I was headed down that same path.
How did you get started with your weight loss journey?
As a busy mom, I wanted a diet plan that was quick and easy. My first week on Nutrisystem, I lost five pounds, which was great because I didn’t feel like I had been dieting for a week. I knew then that this time, my weight loss plan was going to work! Once I started my diet program, I knew I had to get active, too, so I started taking workout classes a few times per week.
How did your diet and exercise habits change?
The program taught me the importance of portion control and eating more fruits and vegetables. I never had the energy or desire to exercise before, but now I start to get cranky if I don’t get a good workout in every day. My weekly workouts now include spin classes, group exercise classes, weight lifting and running — and I’m now a spin class instructor at my local YMCA!
How does it feel now that you’ve lost the weight?
I feel free and unstoppable! I used to hate exercising and now I’ve completed four half marathons and two full marathons since losing the weight! Accomplishing milestones like these makes you realize you can do anything. It feels wonderful to be a healthy role model for my two children. I don’t want them to struggle with their weight like I did, so I’m setting a good example for my family.
